The Parramatta Basketball Association hosted the Hills District Hornets in round two of the Waratah Australian Basketball League (WABL) competition on Saturday night at the Auburn Basketball Stadium.
The Hornets won the women's game by 71-63, before the Wildcats WABL men restored local pride with a crushing 121-89 win over the Hornets men.

Whilst everyone expected the Wildcats to be easy prey for the Hornets in the women's game, Parramatta head coach Doug Zivcic would have been heartened by his young team's big-hearted performance, coming just one week after their seventy-point loss to the Bankstown Bruins.

The Hornets team boasted two Sydney Uni WNBL Flames players, along with a string of state representatives and it all appeared to be just a case of taking the court to win. The young Wildcats however, took the game up to their more-fancied opponents and with a bit more self-belief earlier in the game, could well have been in a position to win in the dying stages.

The men's game was expected to be an up-tempo shoot-out but both teams dawdled through the first two quarters, leaving everyone in doubt as to the final result. New signing Stefan Blaszczynski struck a purple patch of form in the third quarter, lifting the Wildcats to a 37-23 scoreline in the term. The Wildcats maintained that momentum through the final quarter, eventually crushing the Hornets by 32 points.

Both Parramatta teams host the Newcastle Hunters this Saturday, with the women's game at 4pm and the men's game at 6pm.

WOMEN: Hills District Hornets 71 defeated Parramatta Wildcats 63 (Victoria Saad 21 points, Amanda Ford 20 points, 10 boards, 4 assists, 4 steals)

MEN: Parramatta Wildcats 121 (Stefan Blaszczynski 22 points, Goran Veg 20 points, 18 boards, 7 assists, 2 blocked shots; Graeme Dann 20 points, Charles Bloemen 14, Mark Musgrave 13, Tim Labka 11) defeated Hills District Hornets 89
